Hawkins Says He Will Sign Soon
Bill Hawkins, the Rams’ first-round draft choice, said Tuesday that he would be signed and in camp within a day or two.
“It’s getting very close, no question about it,” said Hawkins, the defensive end from Miami and the 21st overall pick in the draft. “We’re within striking range. I thought I’d be out there (today), but it seems things have kind of dragged . . . I plan to be there this week. I don’t think there’s any question about it.”
The Rams are planning to use Hawkins as a starter at inside pass rusher along with linebacker Fred Strickland, who is out for at least three more weeks because of a knee injury.
