Pat Leahy, whose first extra-point attempt was blocked in the third period, kicked a 26-yard field goal with 6:06 left Sunday night to lift the New York Jets to a 19-10 exhibition victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Raleigh, N.C.

A.D. Brown’s four-yard touchdown run with 2:04 left clinched the victory.

Kyle Mackey threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to K.D. Dunn with 4:45 left in the third period, bringing the Jets (1-1) to within 10-9, but Jerome Brown blocked Leahy’s conversion kick to prevent the tie.

Philadelphia (2-1) threatened to extend its lead by reaching the New York 20 early in the fourth quarter, but Don McPherson’s pass intended for running back Heath Sherman was intercepted by linebacker Jackie Walker at the 18.

Mackey, the Jets’ third-string quarterback, had his playing time extended when starter Pat Ryan suffered a sprained left knee late in the first quarter and did not return.

Both teams committed turnovers on successive possessions in the first quarter, but the Jets turned Erik McMillan’s interception of a pass by Randall Cunningham into a 46-yard field goal by Leahy with 2:25 left in the period.

Cunningham, who played all of the first half and one series in the second half, led the Eagles on a 66-yard drive that he kept alive with a dive for a first down on a fourth-and-one at the New York two-yard-line.

Anthony Toney scored on the next play with 57 seconds left before halftime for a 7-3 lead. Max Zendejas added the conversion and kicked a 49-yard field goal with 11:32 left in the third period to give Philadelphia a 10-3 lead.

New York Giants 45, Kansas City 7--Jeff Rutledge threw three touchdown passes and the Giants romped at Kansas City in Marty Schottenheimer’s home debut as Chiefs’ coach.

Phil Simms, the Giants’ regular quarterback who played for the first time this season after ending his holdout last Monday, turned things over to Rutledge after teaming with Odessa Turner on a 73-yard touchdown play for a 14-7 lead in the first period.
