Rocker Lou Reed won’t make it to the MTV Awards at the Universal Amphitheatre on Sept. 6 due to the broken ankle that has caused him to cancel the last seven dates of his current concert tour, a spokesman said Wednesday. Reed, scheduled to be a presenter at the video awards show, suffered his injury during a sound check in Cleveland last Saturday. The cancelled concerts will be rescheduled. Meanwhile, the singer and his former Velvet Underground partner John Cale are continuing preparations for the November premiere in Brooklyn of “Songs for ‘Drella,” a staged tribute to their late mentor, Andy Warhol.
