Robbie Ftorek, former coach of the Kings, signed a two-year contract with the Quebec Nordiques to serve as general manager and coach of their Halifax farm team in the American Hockey League, replacing Doug Carpenter, who was named coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs last week.

Ftorek was fired by the Kings on May 2. Although the Kings had advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, Ftorek did not have the support of the majority of his players, including Wayne Grezky, who had been at odds with Ftorek for most of the season.
