Eight Colombian nationals including a 71-year-old woman were arrested and more than 1,200 pounds of cocaine was seized in a record drug bust, Glendale police said today.

The police searched six houses Friday and Saturday after receiving an anonymous tip, Sgt. Dean Durand said. Most of the cocaine, worth about $75 million, was found in a house in Monterey Park, hidden in two vaults dug underneath the living room floor.

“This shows the lengths traffickers will go to to conceal cocaine,” Durand added.

The eight Colombian suspects, charged with conspiracy and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, were being held on $5-million bail each. They included 71-year-old Ana Tulia Agudelo.

“We’ve been coming across older people involved in drug trafficking but not this old,” Durand said.

It was the largest cocaine bust ever conducted by Glendale officers. Police in the suburb have now seized 3,364 pounds of cocaine and $1.9 million in cash in drug raids this year.
