The State : Fires Spread in N. California

Two wildfires spread in widely separated areas of Northern California, one after going through 3,000 acres of mostly valuable timber and another that has burned homes and outbuildings, authorities said. A 3,000-acre fire was spotting and jumping ahead of firefighters in Plumas National Forest in northeast California. It started Wednesday about 15 miles northwest of Portola. To the south near the Tuolumne County community of Tuttletown, another fire grew to about 325 acres, while destroying four mobile homes, three outbuildings, three cars and a travel trailer.
