Fullerton Seeking First Win Today
Cal State Fullerton plays Cal State Northridge today at 1 p.m. in Santa Ana Stadium, marking the first time since 1982 that the Titans have played a Division II team.
“I told the team, ‘(we) are Division I-A, but if they think they are better than anybody, they could be mistaken,’ ” Fullerton Coach Gene Murphy said. “We’re not awesome enough to look past anybody.”
Fullerton, 5-6 last season, lost its opener to Northern Illinois, 26-17. Dan Speltz completed 37 of 50 passes in that game for 304 yards, but Fullerton’s rushing attack was limited to five yards.
Northridge, 6-5 last season, lost its opener to Cal State Long Beach, 28-9, after trailing by only four points at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
