Wiere Gains Tennis Wild-Card Semifinals
Steve Wiere of Calabasas advanced to the semifinals of the Volvo Tennis wild-card tournament Saturday by defeating Mitch Bridge of Huntington Beach, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4, at the Racquet Centre of Universal City.
Wiere, unseeded in the tournament, will play seventh-seeded Craig Johnson of Rolling Hills Estates today. Wiere beat Alex Reichel of Hacienda Heights in the first round and top-seeded Tim Pawsat of Santa Ana in the second.
Tournament finalists will participate in the Volvo Tennis Los Angeles qualifying tournament at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, Sept. 16-17.
