Truckloads of Dirt Used to Quell Fire at Tire Dump
DANVILLE, N.H. — Firefighters dumped truckloads of dirt on a heap of 1 1/2 million tires Tuesday and knocked down a smoky blaze, but authorities said the pile of rubber could smolder for weeks. The fire broke out Sunday, sending flames 40 feet into the air and black smoke that could be seen 25 miles away.
