Cudahy : Assistant Appointed Acting City Manager for 9 Months

Share

The Cudahy City Council has appointed Assistant City Manager Jack M. Joseph to be acting city manager starting Monday and postponed filling the position permanently until after May 30, 1990.

City Manager Gerald M. Caton leaves his post at the end of this week to become city manager of nearby Downey.

Joseph said the council decided not to fill the position until after city elections next April because the terms of a majority of the council members--Joseph Graffio, Wilfred Colon and Tom Thurman--expire. The city manager is selected by a majority of the five-member council.

The council wanted to give Joseph a year to try out for the position, Joseph said. The decision also will save the city some money. Caton earned $80,400 a year. Joseph’s salary was raised from $58,800 a year to $66,000.

Joseph, 41, began working for Cudahy in May, 1986, as director of administrative services. He was promoted to assistant city manager in March, 1988.
