Raiders’ Schroeder Is Feeling Well Enough to Start Against Chiefs Sunday
Jay Schroeder’s separated left shoulder is feeling better, so is he returning to the starting lineup Sunday at Kansas City?
“Right now, Jay’s going to be our starting quarterback,” Coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday. “It’s a situation where if Jay is not ready to go, I’d have no qualms about putting Steve (Beuerlein) in.”
Said Schroeder: “It’s probably 100% ahead of where I thought it was going to be at this point. There’s no reason I can’t play.”
Schroeder was hurt on the first play from scrimmage Sunday, stayed in to lead a 76-yard touchdown drive and then came out.
Beuerlein went 15 for 22 and threw two touchdown passes, spurring speculation that Shanahan might tell Schroeder to take his time recuperating.
Raider Notes
Marcus Allen’s sprained left foot is OK, and Howie Long’s sprained ankle is responding. The Raiders are still waiting to see on Jerry Robinson (groin) and Scott Davis (knee).
