Chingaderos Returns to Win Gelding Stakes at Los Alamitos

Chingaderos, the 1988 Champion Aged Gelding, won his second stakes race of the season by taking the $27,125 Mr. California Handicap Saturday night at Los Alamitos.

Chingaderos’ victory was his second in five starts in 1989. He won the Kaweah Bar Handicap in his 1989 debut May 6. Chingaderos had been sidelined since July 22 with foot problems.

Chingaderos ran the 400 yards in 19.73 seconds. He paid $6.40, $4.80 and $3.40. Murgies Kip was second and paid $8.00 and $3.60. Zure Hope Again, the 8-5 favorite, paid $2.80 to show.

Chingaderos broke in front of the field and won by a length. “He left in front like his old self,” said winning rider Steve Treasure. “John’s taken his time, and that’s what the horse needed.’

The victory was worth $15,875 to owners Carol and Michele Cooper and raised Chingaderos’ lifetime earnings to $770,896.
