Woodland Hills Man Arrested in Threat to Schoolchildren

A Woodland Hills man was arrested Monday after he threatened to fire a semiautomatic rifle at children outside a neighboring elementary school if administrators did not order them to be quiet, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

About ten administrators and several children locked themselves inside a school office until police arrived, Sgt. Joseph Morgan said. No one was injured.

Michael Allan Munt, 36, was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail on suspicion of threatening a school official, Morgan said.

Munt, who lives in the 4700 block of Degovia Avenue across the street from Calabash Street Elementary School, walked to the school about 2:50 p.m. and told a school official to order the children to be quiet, Morgan said.

School had just let out for the day and the children were waiting near the parking lot for rides home, Morgan said.

When an administrator told Munt that it would be difficult to quiet the children, Munt allegedly replied, “If you don’t do it, I’m going to get my AK-47 and I’ll take care of it,” Morgan said.

Munt then returned to his house, where police arrested him. No weapons were found, Morgan said.
