Penn State quarterback Tom Bill was suspended...
Penn State quarterback Tom Bill was suspended from the team indefinitely Monday, hours after a campus police officer cited the fifth-year senior for public drunkenness.
Penn State Coach Joe Paterno said sophomore Tony Sacca would start in his place Saturday against Boston College.
“We’re disappointed to have to take such measures, but the interests of the squad are best served by putting Tom Bill on temporary suspension,” Paterno read from a prepared announcement.
Monday’s infraction was not the first for Bill. In November, 1988, Bill, then 20, received a citation for underage drinking and paid in $173.50 fines, court records show. And Bill was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct in March 1987 and paid $222 in fines.
