Meryl Streep will not play Argentina’s notorious former first lady in Oliver Stone’s film version of “Evita,” and her withdrawal means an indefinite delay for the project, say Stone and producer Robert Stigwood. Streep, who is in Los Angeles shooting “Postcards From the Edge,” reportedly bowed out because of “exhaustion from her current schedule.” Prerecording of the musical was scheduled to begin in November. Stone said he has no replacement in mind.
