USAir Joins Fare Hike: The Arlington, Va., carrier said it would match the higher discount fares that most other major airlines announced last week. The new higher fares, effective this Friday, are for tickets purchased seven and 14 days in advance of travel. Some of the restrictions on cancellations will also be tightened. American Airlines started the move, and the other major carriers followed. The only holdout remaining is Northwest Airlines, which has not made a decision.
