Five players from the host Squash Club International, 19016 S. Vermont Ave., recorded divisional places in the recent California State Squash Championships. The three-day event used six courts and more than 90 players from around the world participated. SCI placers were: Ashra Fissa, second, and Nigel Chamberlain, third in the C Division, and Mark Granger (D Division), Dave Gordon (A over 35 years old) and Abe Woodson (C over 35), all of whom won their divisional titles.

A pair of San Pedro girls won bronze medals in the recent International Junior Olympic Taekwondo Championships. Competing at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Jennifer Furman (lightweight) and Diana Radakovich (flyweight) were part of a 20-person team representing the United States against teams from Canada, Korea, Taipei, Spain, Italy and Egypt. The U.S. team finished second in the competition. Furman, 15, is a second-degree black belt. She is a sophomore at San Pedro High School. Radakovich, 16, holds a third-degree black belt. She attends a magnet program at Narbonne High in Harbor City. The girls, who train under master K. S. Choi of San Pedro, hope to earn a spot on the Olympic demonstration team for 1992.
