Eric Griffin, a 22-year-old busboy from Houston, became the last gold-medal hope for the United States’ team at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Moscow.
Griffin made it to the 106-pound final with a decision over Kim Dok Nam of North Korea and will fight Cuba’s Rogelio Marcello Saturday night for the gold medal.
Two other U.S. fighters, Tonga McClain, 19, of Racine, Wis., and Raul Marquez, 18, of Houston, lost their semifinal matches and gained bronze medals.
