San Diego Sports et Cetera : HALL OF FAME
Kevin Crow of the Sockers and Tony Gwynn of the Padres are among five to be inducted into the Aztec Hall of Fame on Nov. 9, San Diego State Athletic Director Fred Miller said.
Crow, who played soccer (1979-82), and Gwynn, who played basketball and baseball (1978-82) will be inducted along with basketball coach Morris Gross (1929-52), Don Horn, who played quarterback (1965-66), and track and field athlete Jack Rand (1934-35). Gross and Rand will be inducted posthumously.
MEN’S TENNIS
Jose Luis Noriega of the University of San Diego defeated George Lampert of Clemson, 6-2, 6-0, in the first round of the Marriott’s Baypoint college clay court championships in Panama City, Fla. Noriega, a sophomore, is the tournament’s fourth-seeded player and takes on Kent Seton of USC today in the second round.
MEN’S GOLF
U. S. International University finished third and the University of San Diego eighth at the Nevada-Reno tournament. Nevada-Reno won the title at 878, followed by Oregon (897) and USIU (900).
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Heather Mauro and and Felicia Faro scored two goals apiece as UC San Diego defeated Claremont, 6-0.
