Selfish Urbanite
Eileen Rose-Busby in her article concerning car-pool lanes seems to have overlooked a basic piece of arithmetic. If the lanes now carrying 7,400 vehicles with two or more people were thrown open to single-occupancy vehicles, then the likelihood is that the current car-poolers would quit car-pooling and drive their own vehicles.
This would immediately create two to three times as many vehicles, which would approach the capacity of the car-pool lanes.
Ms. Busby would still be stuck in the freeway lanes, and the car-pool lane would be at a standstill as well!
