Selfish Urbanite

I was appalled by Eileen Rose-Busby’s commentary advocating opening up the car-pool express lane on Interstate 15 to all vehicles (“Why Car-Pool Lanes Should Be Opened to All Vehicles and Not Just a Select Few,” Sept. 17). If she had any knowledge of urban transportation issues, she would know that unrestricted new freeway lanes get just as crowded as the old freeway lanes, and in a very short period of time.

Ms. Busby’s article is a collection of attitudes and life-style choices that are rapidly turning our nation into one big, overheated cesspool. She wants to be able to drive her car, alone, anywhere and anytime she wants, spewing noxious fumes into our air.

Allowing single-occupant cars into the express lanes would be an unmitigated disaster. I implore our elected officials to ignore the bleating of selfish, elitist suburbanites and force these people to start thinking in a more socially and environmentally responsible manner.
