Santa Ana : Man, 24, Shot Dead From Passing Auto
A 24-year-old Santa Ana man standing on a sidewalk chatting with friends was shot to death in what police said Monday was a gang-related drive-by shooting.
Santa Ana Police Sgt. Doyle Smith said Gerardo Veloz was standing on a sidewalk in the 500 block of South Spruce Street when he was hit Sunday night by gunshots fired from a passing car.
Veloz was taken to Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead about 9:30 p.m.
No one else was injured in the incident, and no arrests have been made.
Smith said police have only sketchy information about the vehicle involved in the shooting.
