1 Killed After Car Runs Off Freeway, Hits Tree

Acar went over the side of the Ventura Freeway, struck a tree and came to rest at the foot of a 30-foot embankment near Griffith Park on Wednesday, killing the 52-year-old driver, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The driver, a Glendale resident whose name was withheld until relatives could be notified, was pronounced dead after being trapped in the car west of Forest Lawn Drive, dispatcher Cleo Green said. The accident occurred about 6:40 a.m. while the man was traveling west on the freeway, Green said.
It was not known why the car ran off the road, Green said.
