THE SIDELINES : A’s Lachemann Eyed by Cleveland
The Cleveland Indians have been given permission by the Oakland Athletics to talk to A’s third base coach Rene Lachemann after the playoffs concerning Cleveland’s managing job, President Hank Peters said.
Peters said Wednesday night that the Indians had not interviewed Lachemann and did not expect to name a replacement for the fired Doc Edwards until late October.
Lachemann is a protege of John McNamara, who has been interviewed for the Cleveland job.
The Indians went 73-89 this season, finishing 16 games out of first place. Edwards was fired Sept. 12 after the Indians had fallen out of the American League East division race. Scout John Hart replaced Edwards on an interim basis.
