Share

Bill Shoemaker, three months away from retirement, showed he still knows the way to the winner’s circle by riding Present Value to a four-length victory in the $106,600 Harold C. Ramser Sr. Handicap Saturday in Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita.

The well-traveled Present Value stayed in third place in the early stages of the 1 1/16 mile race, while Rahy and On The Line battled for the lead.

It was not until the stretch run that Shoemaker brought Present Value to the outside and took aim at Rahy for the lead. Rahy took second, while On The Line finished eight lengths back in third.

The victory brought a purse of $61,600 to a partnership that included trainer Jerry Fanning.
