UCI Edges No. 1 Cal in Water Polo

UC Irvine, the nation’s second-ranked water polo team, defeated No. 1 California, 13-12, in six overtimes Saturday when senior Julian Harvey broke free from his defender and scored from six meters out.

Irvine improved its record to 11-2. Cal is now 13-2.

Harvey scored with two minutes 16 seconds remaining in the sixth three-minute overtime period. The score was tied, 10-10, after regulation play and tied at 12 after two overtime periods.

Irvine stopped California’s 13-game winning streak.

California tied the game in regulation on Julian Bailey’s man-up goal with just one second left in regulation play.
