Flomont Posts Fastest Trial for Burke Futurity
Flomont ran the fastest qualifying time for the Ed Burke Memorial Futurity Tuesday, with four trials remaining on the 11-race card.
Flomont, third in the recent Dash For Cash Futurity, was timed in 17.71 seconds. The victory was the fourth in the first six time trials for trainer Blane Schvaneveldt and the third for jockey James Lackey.
Sent off at 3-5 odds, the gray daughter of Dash For Cash, out of Mito Kiss, by Mito Paint, “didn’t get away like she could,” Lackey said. She held the lead from the start and had plenty left to hold off 25-1 long shot Dolls Black Type by three-quarters of a length.
Other winners Tuesday included, Jadore (17.87), Luva My Life (17.78), Hugo Streakin (17.79), The Jetaway Caper (17.81) and AutoDash (17.88). The finals, for an estimated purse of $400,000, will be held Oct. 20.
