Police in Westminster arrested a 31-year-old man Sunday on suspicion of felony drunk driving after his car slammed into a van, injuring two men, one of them seriously.

John Wallace of La Habra was arrested after his car ran a stop sign at Newland Street and Heil Avenue, colliding nearly head-on at 60 m.p.h. with a van, Police Sgt. Jack Davidson said.

Dean Jones, 22, was taken to Humana Hospital-Westminster after the 2:30 a.m. accident. Police said he suffered a broken neck and was in stable condition. Craig Novits, 19, was treated for scrapes and released.

Wallace was also treated for minor injuries and then booked into Orange County Jail, where bail was set at $10,000. He was released after posting bail Sunday afternoon, a jail spokesman said.

Jones and Novits, both of Huntington Beach, were westbound on Heil Avenue when they pulled into an intersection and were hit by Wallace’s car, which was southbound on Newland Street, Davidson said. The accident is under investigation, he said.
