Fire Damages Saugus Electronics Company
Afire caused $500,000 in damage to a Saugus electronics manufacturer Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
A hazardous-materials team was dispatched to the building in the 26400 block of Golden Valley Road after firefighters discovered potentially toxic chemicals inside, Capt. Ron Patterson said. Several firefighters complained of watery eyes after being exposed to smoke from sulfuric acid, but there were no reports of serious injuries, he said.
The fire started about 5:30 a.m. and was contained in about an hour, Patterson said. Hazardous-materials specialists from the county Health Services Department later inspected the plant, but no evacuations were ordered because the building was a safe distance from other structures, he said.
The company, Elec-Trol, manufactures small, plated electronics parts, officials said.
The cause of the blaze was unknown, Patterson said.
