Share

Westwood “then and now” is the theme of a weeklong 60th anniversary celebration that begins Friday.

The festivities include a pictorial odyssey on the area’s growth, which will be displayed at the Westwood Playhouse, as well as self-guided walking tours of Westwood Village and a free screening of the Greta Garbo film “Anna Christie.”

UCLA’s Oct. 27 Homecoming Parade will feature the anniversary as its theme.

“Celebrate Westwood’s 60th” was planned by a group that included homeowners, merchants, representatives from UCLA, Mayor Tom Bradley and City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky.

In addition to the events, a beautification organization and a historical society have been created. Artist Billy Al Bengston has created a T-shirt and poster for the occasion. For additional information about the anniversary observance, call 825-7439.
