SOUTHLAND : Deputy, Drug Suspect Killed

RIPON, Calif. —
A San Joaquin County sheriff’s deputy was declared dead late this morning from a gunshot to the head received during a gun battle at Ripon that killed a drug suspect, the department reported.
The death of Dighton Little, 35, a 10-year veteran, was confirmed by Lt. Mike Kelly.
Sgt. Michael Esau said gunfire broke out as San Joaquin deputies backed up sheriff’s deputies from neighboring Stanislaus County who were serving a warrant in a drug investigation.
