Trabuco Hills Gets Revenge With Victory

Trabuco Hills High School atoned for last year’s upset by Laguna Beach with a 49-14 Pacific Coast League victory Friday night.

Laguna Beach beat Trabuco Hills, 9-6, in 1988, the last loss during Trabuco Hills’ march to the Division VIII championship. In fact, Trabuco Hills had never beaten Laguna Beach in football until Friday.

Quarterback Tim Manning, running back Peter Burke and wide receiver Rick Sparks led the offensive attack for Trabuco Hills (6-1, 2-0). Manning ran four yards for a touchdown and tossed a seven-yard pass to Sparks for another. Burke scored on runs of 24 and 34 yards.

Senior fullback Sean Mallett scored both Laguna Beach touchdowns, on runs of one and 77 yards. Laguna Beach (0-7, 0-2) quarterback Aaron Scheid completed 16 of 31 passes for 166 yards.
