More than 100 radio stations across the country have agreed to go silent for 15 seconds today at 5:04 p.m. in honor of the victims of the Bay Area earthquake.

They will then broadcast a Red Cross number that lists donations to victims of the quake. The commemoration is being held at 5:04 p.m., the time that the temblor struck last Tuesday, and for 15 seconds because that was the amount of time the quake lasted.

Stations will be encouraged to play songs like “With a little Help from My Friends” by the Beatles or Dionne Warwick and friends’ “That’s What Friends Are For” just after observing the 15 seconds of silence, said organizer Josh Baran. They will also be encouraged to spend as much time as possible raising money for the Red Cross, Baran said. Local stations that have agreed to participate include FM stations: KLOS (95.5), KLSX (97.1), KKBT (92.3), KNAC (105.5), KPWR (105.9) and KIIS (102.7).
