COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Top-Ranked Cal Edges No. 2 Irvine in Water Polo

No. 1-ranked California (16-2) led all the way, defeating UC Irvine, 11-10, in the championship match of the Cal State Long Beach water polo invitational at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.
Irvine, ranked second in the nation, has a record of 18-4. Irvine’s Tom Warde made the game close by scoring three of his four goals in the final 4 1/2 minutes of play.
In the UC San Diego cross-country invitational:
Christ College Irvine freshman Genevieve Graff remained unbeaten by winning the women’s division in 18 minutes 33 seconds on the 3.1-mile course.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
Cal Poly Pomona 2, UC Irvine 1--Pomona (6-10-2) scored twice in the second half in defeating host Irvine (5-11-3).
