Man Killed by Train at Santa Susana Pass
A 20-year-old man who had been socializing with friends on a railroad track was struck and killed Wednesday by a freight train in the Santa Susana Pass, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
Jeffrey Haddock of Agoura Hills was struck about 1 a.m. on the Southern Pacific Transportation Co. tracks west of the Santa Susana tunnel between Chatsworth and Simi Valley, Lt. Kelly McIlvain said. Two acquaintances jumped out of the train’s path seconds before Haddock was hit, she said.
Paramedics pronounced Haddock dead at the scene, she said.
“It appears that the victim had been drinking with a group of friends just prior to the accident,” McIlvain said.
The night before the accident, a man was hospitalized after he fell from the tracks in the same area, McIlvain said.
