Judge Suspends Jail Term for Cyndy Garvey

A Los Angeles judge Wednesday suspended a 126-day jail sentence for Cyndy Garvey, the ex-wife of former baseball star Steve Garvey who spent a night in jail last month for violating a child visitation order.

Superior Court Judge Frances Rothschild reinstated probation for Garvey, saying she would make a final ruling on the sentence at a Dec. 8 hearing.

Garvey was found guilty last month of 42 counts of contempt in “willfully” violating a court order that permitted her ex-husband to visit his daughters, Krisha, 14, and Whitney, 13.

In October, Steve Garvey also was granted joint custody of the girls, who live with their mother in Malibu. Steve Garvey hosts a San Diego radio talk show.

Neither Cyndy Garvey nor her ex-husband would comment on Wednesday’s ruling.

Rothschild said that if Cyndy Garvey complies with visitation and custody orders, the jail sentence could be annulled. Under the visitation order, the girls are to spend each Tuesday afternoon and every other weekend with their father.

The Garveys were divorced in 1981.
