From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

Four people were arrested this morning in Castaic after a chase on the Golden State Freeway during which small packages believed to contain drugs were thrown out the window of a car being pursued by California Highway Patrol officers, authorities said.

The names of the suspects arrested at 10:45 a.m. as the chase ended on Lake Hughes Road, east of the freeway, were not available and officers were still at the scene investigating, Officer Monty Keifer said.

The chase began about 15 minutes earlier when a patrol officer tried to pull a car over for a traffic violation on the freeway and the car tried to speed away, reaching speeds of 90 m.p.h., Keifer said.
