Mr. Bolg Is Easy Winner

Heavily favored Mr. Bolg romped to a 6 1/2-length victory over Comical in the $60,700 Messenger of Song Stakes for 3-year-olds Thursday, the feature race of the the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting. Arc of Tawa finished third, another neck back, in the field of six.

Mr. Bolg, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye and carrying 118 pounds, covered seven furlongs in 1:21 and paid $2.80 to win.

Mr. Bolg was prominent from the outset, squeezed through along the rail down the backstretch, took command approaching the far turn and drew off. It was Mr. Bolg’s fourth victory in 14 starts and second stakes victory. The $33,700 first prize raised his earnings to $156,681.

For Delahoussaye, the leading rider at the meeting, it was his his seventh added- money victory of 19 run at the meet. For trainer Yves Seguin, a native of France, it was his first Oak Tree stakes victory.
