Fullerton Seeks Payback Win Against 49ers
Cal State Long Beach, which learned of Coach Larry Reisbig’s resignation two days ago, plays its next-to-last game under him today, facing Cal State Fullerton in a Big West Conference game at 1 p.m. at Santa Ana Stadium.
Reisbig is 10-23 in three seasons at Long Beach. The 49ers are 3-7 this season, 1-4 in the Big West. Their only victory against a Division I opponent was against winless New Mexico State.
Fullerton will be trying to pay back Long Beach for an embarrassing loss last season. The 49ers broke a nine-game losing streak over two seasons when they defeated Fullerton on a 32-yard field goal with five seconds left.
The Titans, 4-4-1 and 3-2, need to win their final two games to have a winning season for the first time since 1985.
Fullerton’s offense is led by Mike Pringle, who tied the Division I single-game rushing record of 357 yards last week and is second in the nation averaging 148.9 yards a game.
Fullerton quarterback Dan Speltz needs only 61 yards passing to become the school’s leader, passing Damon Allen, whose record is 4,218 yards.
