GIVING DUE CREDIT

While it was a pleasant surprise to find myself mentioned in Charles Champlin’s column on the Bouchercon, the mystery writers’ and readers’ conference in Philadelphia (Book Review, Oct. 29), I would like to make the following corrections to his observations, for the sole purpose of giving credit where credit is due:

The winner of the Private Eye Writers of America and St. Martin’s Press “Best First Private-Eye Novel” Contest for 1989 was Janet Dawson of Alameda, Calif., for her book, “Kindred Crimes,” which St. Martin’s will publish in spring, 1990. I was the second winner of the award in 1987. Karen Kijewski was the third winner in 1988, as stated. However, the full title of her fine book is not “Walk,” but “Katwalk.”
