Turner Broadcasting System Inc.: The Atlanta-based broadcasting company reported a third-quarter profit of $35.2 million, contrasted with a $36.5-million loss in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 36% to a record $269 million. The results included a $38.8-million non-recurring benefit from the settlement of a tax matter that originated before the company’s acquisition of MGM/UA Entertainment Co. The company said revenue increased in all segments, including a 38% rise for the entertainment section due primarily to the addition of the Turner Network Television cable channel.
