* The Motion Picture and Television Hospital received a $70,000 contribution from Eastman Kodak Co. toward its five-year $350,000 pledge, made in 1985, to establish the Daily Living Center, an occupational therapy unit at the hospital. The Motion Picture Television Fund (founded in 1921) launched a $50-million capital campaign pledge, also in 1985. William Haug is fund executive director.

* The Bacardi Imports Sickle Cell Comedy Benefit at the Wiltern Theatre Sept. 30, raised $5,000 for the National Assn. for Sickle Cell Disease in Los Angeles. The money was raised by Bacardi Imports via the event sponsorship, as well as other functions at Los Angeles clubs such as Paradise 24, Red Onion and Circus Circus, where a percentage of entry fees were donated on designated nights. Proceeds will be used for research, education and rehabilitation programs. Danny Glover and Nancy Giles were co-hosts.

* The Wellness Community (South Bay Cities) dinner, dance and auction was Oct. 15 at the Wellness Community-South Bay Cities. The “Land of Oz” theme-night, in commemoration of the movie’s 50th anniversary, netted more than $68,000. Proceeds will be used to continue work on recovery and enhancing the lives of cancer patients by providing them and their families free psychological support. Major contributors were: the Long Beach Airport Marriott Hotel, which donated the ballroom, dinner and service, and the Austin Printing Co., which printed invitations and an ad book. Maria Mustad and Kim Rosenfield were event co-chairs.

* The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet of Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital, sold new and donated designer clothing Oct. 27-28 at the AdDress in Santa Monica. Celebrities who donated clothing were Madonna, Joan Collins, Vanna White and Barbara Sinatra. The not-for-profit Catholic hospital in the Marina will use the $5,000 proceeds to defray the costs of diagnostic testing for homeless children.

* Family Service Assn. of Orange County held an evening of dining and comedy Oct. 30 at the Improv Comedy Club in Irvine to raise money for counseling services to Orange County children, couples, families and individuals. The net proceeds of $4,500 will allow 11 families to receive counseling they otherwise could not afford. Helen Barnes was event chair.

* The “Bid for Kids” High Society Auction and Dinner Dance of the Boys and Girls Club of Whittier (25th anniversary celebration of club) was Nov. 4 at the Anaheim Hilton Towers. This event raised $100,000, proceeds to be used to continue to serve 1,000 boys and girls ages 7-17. Joan Woehrmann is board president. Dr. John Vollers was event chair.

* The American Diabetes Assn. benefit premiere screening of “Steel Magnolias” was Nov. 9 at the Cineplex Odeon Century Plaza Cinemas. Dinner and dancing followed at the Century Plaza Hotel, where also appearing were the film’s stars: Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts. Screening of the film, which touches on the effects of diabetes, netted more than $500,000 and will be used to further research for a cure. Frank Wells, president and CEO of Walt Disney Co., and his wife, Luanne, were honorary chairs. The event was organized by the Premiere Committee of the Los Angeles Chapter of ADA and chaired by Brigitte Medvin.
