Glendale’s Moore Places 21st in State Junior College Meet

James Moore of Glendale College finished 21st in the state junior college cross-country meet Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno, covering the four-mile course in 20 minutes, 22 seconds.
Noureddine Morceli of Riverside City College, an Algerian native, won the race in 18:48, breaking Mark Dani’s course record of 19:00 set in 1987.
Morceli posted mile splits of 4:25, 9:07, and 13:56 to finish 27 seconds ahead of Pablo Sierra of East Los Angeles. Jaime Galindo of Ventura placed ninth in 19:53.
Mt. SAC swept both team titles, winning the men’s competition with 74 points and the women’s race with 53 points.
Glendale’s Nicole Jimenez placed 26th in the women’s 5,000-meter race, clocking 19:08. Moorpark’s Tricia Mathiesen and Pam Fuller finished 50th and 64th.
