President Bush will make a nationally broadcast speech Wednesday evening on events in Eastern Europe and next month’s summit with Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev, it was announced today.

The speech, at 6 p.m. PST, will be broadcast from the presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains, where Bush will be spending the Thanksgiving holidays. White House Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater, announcing the speech, said, “He will be talking about reforms in Eastern Europe, but mostly about Thanksgiving.”

It will be only the second time in his presidency that Bush has made a prime-time, televised address. The first was Sept. 5, when he announced details of an anti-drug program.
