BUENA PARK : Bone Selected as City’s 35th Mayor

City Councilman Donald L. Bone was chosen the city’s 35th mayor by unanimous vote of his peers Monday.

Bone, a local businessman, has served as a council member for three years and succeeds Donna L. Chessen. He will serve a one-year term.

Councilman Kenneth B. Jones retained the post of mayor pro tem for a second term.

Before moving into the seat as mayor, Bone presented Chessen with a plaque and a clock in appreciation of her service as mayor for the last year, then gave a brief acceptance speech.

“It is an honor to serve. I will do my very best, and if you hear some knocking at first, don’t worry, it will be my knees,” he said.

Bone, who came from Arkansas, and his wife, Judy, were high school sweethearts at Santa Ana High School. They have two sons, Mike and Jeff. The family has lived in Buena Park for 20 years and has owned and operated D.L. Bone & Sons, Painting Contractors, for 17 years.

Before seeking a seat on the City Council in 1987, Bone served on the Fullerton Joint Union High School District board of trustees for four years, including one year as board president.
