Misdemeanor charges were filed against four Oklahoma football players, including starting tailback Ike Lewis, who were found to have automobile parts and beer in their car when stopped by campus police earlier this month.
The four players--Lewis, running back Reggie Finch, linebacker Corey Mayfield and defensive back Fred McCline--were suspended from the football team by Coach Gary Gibbs for the remainder of the season. Only Lewis, however, actually was playing.
Gibbs said he would decide the players’ status with the football program in the near future.
Assistant district attorney Bill Boswell said Lewis is accused of damaging and removing pieces from an automobile; Finch is accused of transporting an open container, and Mayfield and McCline are accused of being minors in possession of beer. The incident occurred Nov. 8.
