The 21-year-old brother of a well-liked Garden Grove student teacher was arrested for allegedly killing her and setting fire to the family home, police said today.

Callen Anthony Chase was booked into Orange County Jail for suspicion of murder in connection with the slaying of his sister, Claudia Chase, 28. Garden Grove and Anaheim officers arrested the man about 9:40 p.m. Sunday at the Amtrak station in Anaheim. Detectives would not say why they believed he had gone there.

The suspect and the victim both lived at the Garden Park Estates home with their mother. Garden Grove Police Lt. Chuck Gibbs declined to state the motive for the crime.

The woman’s badly burned corpse was found Thursday afternoon by firefighters who were called to the two-story home on Cerulean Avenue. An autopsy determined that Claudia Chase, 28, died of massive head injuries, and investigation showed that the fire had been deliberately set.

She was a student teacher at nearby Pacific High School, which she once attended as a student.
