Giants’ Free Agent Candy Maldonado Signs With Indians
The Cleveland Indians today signed free agent outfielder Candy Maldonado to a one-year contract worth $825,000, including a $50,000 signing bonus.
Maldonado, 29, a former Dodger, spent the last season with the San Francisco Giants, hitting .217 with 23 doubles, nine home runs and 41 RBI in 129 appearances.
Maldonado went hitless in three at-bats in three playoff games and had one hit, a triple, in 11 at-bats in the four World Series games.
In seven major-league seasons with the Giants and Dodgers, Maldonado has a lifetime batting average of .251 with 70 home runs and 322 RBI in 818 games.
Because Maldonado is a type “C” player, the Indians said they would not lose a draft pick as compensation for signing him.
