Supervisors OK Sheriff’s Services for Cudahy
County supervisors have approved a contract to provide law enforcement services to the city of Cudahy, despite objections from residents who accused the Sheriff’s Department of slow response time.
Cudahy, a mostly industrial city of 20,000, had been getting its police protection from the city of Bell since 1974, when it severed its ties with the Sheriff’s Department. But the Cudahy City Council voted Sept. 5 to resume its relationship with the department, although an estimated 300 residents jammed the council chambers to oppose the move. Residents have complained that the sheriff’s East Los Angeles station is eight miles from the community.
