NHL ROUNDUP : Neely’s Streak Continues in Bruin Win

Cam Neely extended his goal-scoring streak to eight games and the Boston Bruins ended a 10-game regular-season winless streak against the Buffalo Sabres with a 5-1 victory Thursday night at Boston.

The Bruins had been 0-6-4 in regular-season games against Buffalo during the last two seasons, including 0-1-1 this season.

Calgary 5, Minnesota 2--The Flames snapped a nine-game winless streak, their longest in four seasons, as Sergei Makarov had a goal and an assist at Calgary.

The Flames began their 0-5-4 slide with a 3-2 overtime loss in Minnesota on Nov. 11. It was the defending Stanley Cup champions’ longest non-winning streak since they lost 11 in a row midway through the 1985-86 season.

Philadelphia 4, Pittsburgh 1--Ken Wregget had 34 saves for the Flyers at Philadelphia.

Wregget was on the verge of his third career shutout until Kevin Stevens scored a power-play goal with 5:02 to play. Wregget has a 4-1 record and a 1.42 goals-against average in his last five games.

Hartford 5, St. Louis 3--Pat Verbeek broke a tie with 5:56 remaining at St. Louis as the Whalers got their second victory in their last seven games.

Montreal 6, Quebec 2--Mike McPhee and Stephane Richer each scored twice and Patrick Roy won for the first time in seven tries in his native city of Quebec.

New York Islanders 2, Chicago 0--Alan Kerr scored the game-winning goal early in the second period and goalie Mark Fitzpatrick stopped 31 shots for his first NHL shutout.
